Using the Pride Mobility GoGo Sport (3-Wheel) as an example, let’s walk through how to replace your mobility scooter batteries. The steps for replacing batteries are very similar across many mobility scooter models, so you should be able to use this example to help you replace your personal scooter batteries, whichever model you ride.
Whether you are looking to regain your scooter's original range or are performing routine maintenance, following these steps will help you swap out your batteries safely and get back to your day with confidence.
Estimated Time to Complete: Approximately 20 minutes from start to finish (if you have all your tools and workspace ready).
Pro Tip
Replacement batteries for almost any scooter model can be purchased at Batteries Plus. You can have them shipped directly to your home for a DIY project, or you can pick them up in-store and have our battery experts handle the installation for you!
To remove the screws from the battery pack case.
To remove the battery terminal cables. (Wrench size may vary with your scooter and battery)
To protect your hands and prevent accidental shocks.
Follow these clear steps to complete your battery swap.

Turn off the power: Ensure the scooter is off and remove the key. You can place the key in the front basket or on a table to keep it safe.
Remove the seat: Fold the seat back down and lift the seat straight up off the post to remove the seat. Set it somewhere out of the way.

Lift the pack: With the seat removed, grasp the handle on the battery pack and lift straight up. It is held in place by Velcro, so it may require a firm tug. Place it on a stable work surface.
Pro Tip
Place an old towel down so you don't scratch the battery case on the floor or table surface.

Remove screws: Carefully flip the battery pack upside down. Use your Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws (there are typically eight on models like the GoGo Sport).
Remove the cover: Carefully flip the pack back over, holding the top so it doesn't come off in the process, and lift off the plastic top cover to reveal the batteries inside.

Safety first: Put on your safety gloves. (This is especially important if you wear metal wings or watches.)
Unbolt terminals: Use the 5/16 inch wrench to remove the bolts from each battery terminal. Be careful not to lose the washers or nuts!
Remove batteries: Lift the old batteries out of the casing. Some OEM batteries will have Velcro holding the batteries in place, so you may need to pull hard.

Position new batteries: Place your new batteries into the case in the same orientation as the old ones.
Reconnect cables: Attach the cables to the terminals. Ensure the positive (red) cable goes to the positive terminal and the negative (black) cable goes to the negative terminal.
Tighten: Secure the terminal bolts firmly with your wrench.

Close the case: Replace the top cover, carefully flip the pack over, and reinstall the screws.
Reinstall on scooter: Drop the battery pack back into the scooter base—you'll feel it click into place—and reattach the seat.
Power on: Insert the key and give the scooter a quick test drive.
Now that your new batteries are installed, your scooter is ready to provide the reliable performance and range you depend on. Regular battery maintenance is the best way to ensure your batteries are healthy, you stay independent, and your mobility stays unhindered.
